Abstract Because of continued exhaustion of natural resources and increased environmental pollution with waste, the importance of reverse supply chain is getting more emphasis. The reverse supply chain activities like remanufacturing and recycling are on the increase, and researches connected with reverse supply chain occur very actively. However, activities implemented to companies are not operable or controlled efficiently in many cases. Since there dose not exist proper guidelines at strategic level. This study tries to suggest a strategic road map that could help companies implement reverse supply chain activities.
First, the reference model for reverse supply chain is developed. Reverse supply chain activities are added to Supply Chain Operation Reference Model v7.0 of Supply Chain Council. It includes the description of processes, detailed procedures, input/output information and performance measures. Based on the reference model, problems connected with strategic decision of companies are analyzed. Differences in reverse supply chain activities of the respective industries are discerned. The problems with price and quality of remanufactured product are arranged. Information for forecasting life span of a product, and important factors that must be considered in adding reverse supply chain activities to MRP are analyzed. Finally international information systems related to reverse supply chain are introduced.
