Abstract Mass customization has become as a new paradigm to satisfy the various demand of customers as well as to realize the economy of scale through mass production system in the global market place. Mass customization is embodied by product development methods with which various product families can be yielded from “Product Platform”. Product platform- the key word of this method ? is significantly efficient as a solution to the demand of high variety, small quantity product.
This research presents the method to build a naval ship platform family, utilizing the concept of “Group Technology” for achieving customer satisfaction and obtaining the economy of scale effect in the high variety, small quantity production system. The study includes cost analysis for naval ship platform family with assumption of the practical problems, and presents the details of cost effect and the applicable range.
In conclusion. Some remarkable effects such as reduction of the cost and development time are expected by employing this investigation to the process of procurement plan, design and construction of the naval ship.
