Abstract When enterprise-wide system or subsystem is analyzed, designed and implemented, various kinds of models are needed. And it requires much time and human resources to develop these models. Enterprise engineering and implementation of CIM include software development processes. So, these require more jobs than software development process and cover various domains of enterprises. However, theoretical researches which are relevant to a modeling process in enterprise engineering and CIM are not sufficient to support modeling processes practically, because these can not reduce required information and complexity in modeling.
This study intends to propose the way of improving reusability in enterprise modeling methodologies. The reusability has two aspects, which are for reuse and with reuse.

In improving of for reuse, the enterprise modeling constructs have different notations and semantics from those of software development. So, this study proposes that the enterprise modeling constructs be represented by the UML(Unified Modeling Language) which is used widely in software development process. Through this representation, communications and reuse of enterprise models can be improved.

In improving with reuse, this study proposes that the analysis and design patterns be applied to enterprise modeling methodologies. For this, reference models can be reused in the requirement definition level, and patterns can be reused in the design specification level and the implementation description level.

CIM-OSA(Open System Architecture for CIM) is selected for this study, because CIM-OSA has the modeling framework that covers the whole of a modeling process for CIM and the properties (modularity, generality, reusability, etc.) which makes it easy to gain the effect by this study.

By UML representation, the studies for supporting enterprise and CIM modeling processes can reuse the results of researches in software engineering easily. By reusing patterns in CIM-OSA, The scope of research in enterprise and CIM modeling can be broadened. As a result, the cost of the modeling for enterprise engineering and the implementation of CIM can be cut down through this study.
