Abstract The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the various operating rules which have been proposed by Stecke & Solberg in 1981. To improve realistic aspects of simulation, tool change is considered and Caterpillar FMS is used as a model system. Simulation with the simulation language SIMAN is used for various combinations of loading policies and sequencing rules. Production rate and tool change rate are selected as performance measures. Production rates are diversed with the range between 72.2% ~130.8% and tool change rates are between 0~15.9 times. And other salient results are discussed.
