Abstract This thesis discusses the performance evaluation of queueing network methodologies as used for the planning of FMS production systems. At first, the possibility of applications and utilities of queueing network models is investigated for FMS production plans. Experimental results both by queueing network models such as CAN-Q, MVAQ and results by detailed simulation models written in SIMAN are compared and some propositions are presented based on the results of the experiments. Also, a new and practical solution methodology for FMS planning problems is proposed. The proposed methodology based on queueing network models generates practical solutions for the part mix and the routing mix problems very efficiently. Example problems are solved both by the proposed methodology and the existing methodology and the performances of both methodologies are compared.
