abstract Shipbuilding consists of numerous activities but estimating activity time in shipbuilding, as a kind of project shop, is difficult and error-prone. Therefore monitoring the progress of activities and rescheduling the project based on progress information are very important for efficient follow up and keeping due dates of the projects. In our study, an automated real time progress monitoring system in block assembly shop using RFID is introduced. This system uses existing real-time location system as well as the technology to recognize the current statues of machines. To relate location and statues information with progress, the product production structure is used. Simulation study is also included to investigate the possible performance of the system with respect to various criteria.
