| abstract | RMCs (Reconfigurable Manufacturing Cells) are production systems which can rapidly change its hardware configuration to catch up with the change of production requirement. Its re-configurability provides additional flexibility to manufacturing systems and it gives rise to a new scheduling problem. In this study the effect of RMCs’ re-configurability on the manufacturing system’s flexibility to market is analyzed and based on this a new scheduling problem covering reconfiguration of resources is defined. Finally experimental study is conducted to evaluate the effect of enhanced flexibility from RMCs on the manufacturing performances. |
