abstract | Manufacturing Execution System (MES) has gained research attention in recent years as it is the only means to provide real time feed back information for planning systems like Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) systems. Real Time Enterprise (RTE) has become a reality now due to the emerging technologies like radio-frequency identification (RFID) and Web services. In this paper we propose a framework of ubiquitous MES (u-MES) which utilizes the RFID system to gain accurate production and process information in real time and which provides interfaces via Web service to reduce the necessity of additional middleware installation. The proposed framework is unique in the sense that it is developed from the requirements of the shop floor and we envisage that our prototype MES will become regarded as a stepping stone in the creation of a new and practical standard for the next generation MES. |
