abstract | The MRP (Material Requirement Planning) process is a core function to generate an exact and efficient production plan for manufacturing enterprises. Providing an executable production plan in high speed was a primitive goal of MRP since the term was born in 1970s. However, due to the time consuming characteristic of the process, real time processing was very hard to achieve, whereas the unrealized ideal of MRP intended to be called as APS (Advanced Planning System) in 1990s. One important characteristic regarding APS compared to conventional MRP is to consider the requirements of materials and resources simultaneously. However, despite countless efforts in both academic and commercial field, the problem has not been largely conquered yet. By the way, the turning up of a grid computing leads us to challengeable opportunities for improving the process considerably. Furthermore, rapid employments of RFID made on each facility in supply chains are requiring the large scale distributed network as well. In this paper, we propose the grid-enabled MRP process that considers capacity constraints and RFID monitored inventory in real time. In the proposed system, maintenance of the APS consists of four steps; master data synchronization, job distribution, part explosion, and writing back steps. |
